Employment Advice and Counselling

Mr. Stander prides himself on being a “next generation” lawyer, by being a go-to advisor and taking the time to get to know his clients’ businesses and the employment law and HR issues they face.  Mr. Stander listens to the needs and goals of his clients and translates that into straightforward advice without unnecessary legal jargon to provide the best practical and responsive solutions for business owners and HR teams.

Contentious and Non-Contentious Employment Matters

Mr. Stander’s practice is focused on dealing with contentious and non-contentious matters for both employers and senior executives. In particular, he has extensive experience in the following areas: day-to-day UK and international employment and multi-jurisdictional HR issues including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, data protection and the employment aspects of sensitive workplace investigations, and advising on, preparing and negotiating settlement agreements. Mr. Stander has a particular interest in mental health issues and well-being in the workplace and is an accredited Mental Health First Aider.

He also provides advice to clients on senior-level exits, disciplinary, grievance and redundancy processes, and assists in drafting employment contracts, restrictive covenants, confidentiality agreements and consultancy agreements and company policies. Additionally, he advises in connection with employment litigation matters and is familiar with both court and employment tribunal processes.

Cross-Industry and International Experience

Mr. Stander has provided counsel to various business sectors including retail, tech, health care, manufacturing, not-for-profit organisations, small and medium-sized enterprises, media, and leisure and hospitality, often with an international element.

Mr. Stander is passionate about his pro bono work and serves as counsel for a number of non-profit organisations.  He is also an ambassador for the firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group, Vedder Pride. In addition, in his free time, Mr. Stander serves as a mentor to students on his law school’s mentoring scheme.
