London Employment Associate Daniel Stander recently authored an article for People Management, deliberating whether accent-based discrimination in the workplace should be banned under the Equality Act.

In the article Stander reviews a few of recent studies that suggest certain accents are viewed as “right” and “wrong” and in some cases may even cause employers to view some accents as “less intelligent.” Currently, there is no legal protection for those with local or regional accents, only for those with accents from other national origins. Stander discusses this along with changes that could be coming in this sector due to increased call for action.
