Marguerite C. Bateman, Washington, DC Office
Marguerite C. Bateman joined the firm in March 2020 as an Investment Services Shareholder in the Washington, DC office. Ms. Bateman focuses her practice on advising investment companies and investment advisers on issues arising under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, and in counseling independent directors of investment companies on their duties and responsibilities under the law. She counsels investment company boards of directors and trustees, and registered and unregistered investment advisory organizations in navigating the stringent federal securities laws that asset management clients deal with daily, as well as on challenging developments such as regulatory examinations, inquiries and litigation.
Kimberly Karcewski Vargo, Washington, DC Office
Kimberly Karcewski Vargo joined the firm in March 2020 as an Investment Services Shareholder in the Washington, DC office. Ms. Vargo counsels mutual funds, independent directors and investment advisers with respect to structuring and registering mutual fund products, including alternative strategy funds and funds that utilize a manager of managers structure. Her experience also includes the handling of complex acquisition and reorganization transactions for investment companies and consolidations following mergers of advisers. In addition, Ms. Vargo has extensive experience interfacing with the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on various registration and other regulatory matters and regularly participates in board and committee meetings, providing advice on board governance, and fund compliance and regulatory matters.
Robert M. Crea, San Francisco Office
Robert M. Crea joined the firm in February 2020 as an Investment Services Shareholder in the San Francisco office. Mr. Crea counsels investment advisers, private fund managers and broker-dealers on a variety of fund formation, product structuring, regulatory and compliance, performance presentation and securities law matters. He regularly works with clients to structure and document U.S. and offshore private investment funds and assists clients with a variety of state and federal regulatory and compliance issues. He represents pension plans and other institutional investors in connection with their investments in hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and real estate funds.
David Rownd, New York Office
David Rownd joined the firm in January 2020 as a Litigation Shareholder in the New York office. David maintains a nationwide business litigation practice that focuses on representing clients involved in high-stakes, complex litigation. He has tried bench and jury trials in state and federal courts, conducted hearings before administrative agencies, and represented clients in arbitrations and mediations before domestic and international alternative dispute resolution tribunals. In addition to his work as a litigator, David also serves as a counselor and "legal concierge" to a variety of clients, coordinating the delivery of services in a number of different areas, including real estate transactions, business deals, and estate planning and administration.
Eric R. McDonough, Los Angeles Office
Eric R. McDonough joined the firm in September 2019 as a Litigation Shareholder in the Los Angeles office. Eric focuses his practice on business and commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in trade secrets litigation and restrictive covenant claims, technology disputes, unfair competition disputes, real estate litigation, products liability and tort litigation insurance bad faith and ERISA litigation. Eric has experience in all phases of civil discovery, pre-trial, trial and post-trial litigation and has defended a number of complex litigation matters in California.
Andrew B. Harris, London Office
Andrew B. Harris joined the firm as a Partner in the Finance & Transactions group and European Head of Private Equity and Corporate in the London office in June 2019. Andrew focuses on private equity and private M&A transactions. He has considerable experience in share and asset purchases, disposals/exits, MBOs, MBIs, buy and builds, joint ventures and restructurings, and acts for private equity firms, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals, as well as portfolio companies and management teams. Prior to joining Vedder Price, Andrew served as a private equity partner at an AmLaw 100 firm in London.
Daniel H. Shulman, Chicago Office
Daniel H. Shulman joined Vedder Price as an Intellectual Property Shareholder in the Chicago office in May 2019. Daniel's practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property acquisition, monetization and enforcement, including complex patent litigation, trademark litigation, copyright litigation, trade secret litigation and all aspects of patent and trademark prosecution and portfolio management. He also focuses on complex commercial matters, advertising disputes before courts and the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau, products liability, antitrust matters and enforcement of restrictive covenants. He has experience managing all aspects of domestic patent prosecution and litigation relating to consumer packaged goods, electronic exchanges, insurance industry, telecommunications, financial products, mechanical and electrical devices, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also advises clients on intellectual property transactions including technology development agreements, confidentiality and joint development agreements, licensing and mergers and acquisitions
David L. Kane, Chicago Office
David L. Kane joined the firm as a Shareholder in the Insolvency, Bankruptcy & Corporate Reorganization group in the Chicago office in April 2019. David brings over 16 years of experience in almost every facet of complex bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings, including cash collateral and debtor-in-possession financing, Section 363 sale transactions, real estate and equipment leasing disputes, and claims administration, as well as preference, fraudulent transfer and the prosecution and defense of bankruptcy adversary litigation. His clients include a cross section of secured and unsecured creditors, financial institutions, asset purchasers, debtors, Chapter 7 trustees, assignees and equity security holders, whom he represents in a variety of bankruptcy and out-of court insolvency matters
Michelle L. Landry, San Francisco Office
Michelle Landry joined the firm in March 2019 as a Litigation Shareholder in the San Francisco office. Michelle focuses her practice on prosecuting and defending complex civil litigation across a wide array of industries for individuals, partnerships, LLCs, and private and publicly traded companies. She has represented clients in breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair business practices, commercial lease disputes, trademark and trade secrets, defamation and invasion of privacy cases, price-fixing and RICO. She has substantial trial experience and has arbitrated in all major arbitration venues.
Anthony Pacheco, Los Angeles Office
Anthony Pacheco joined the firm as a Shareholder in the Government Enforcement & Special Investigations practice group in Los Angeles in February 2019, focusing on white collar criminal defense, internal investigations and complex business litigation, including civil and criminal trials. Anthony’s clients include public and private companies, medical centers, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, laboratories, software companies, brokerages, financial institutions, municipalities, universities, studios, post-production companies, high-level executives, doctors, lawyers, accountants and nonprofit entities. He has handled over 100 internal investigations and has managed sensitive public relations issues dealing with criminal, quasi-criminal, civil, regulatory, administrative and parallel proceedings. His white collar criminal defense experience includes, but is not limited to, health care fraud and abuse, False Claim Act, Stark and anti-kickback laws, HIPAA, data privacy and cybersecurity, whistleblower claims, securities and financial fraud, insider trading, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, #metoo, executive/employee misconduct, and wire and mail fraud.
