John P. Guyette is Shareholder in Vedder Price’s New York office and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment group.

Mr. Guyette is a seasoned litigator who focuses his practice on general employment counseling and training, workplace investigations, and complex litigation of single-plaintiff and multi-plaintiff discrimination matters, wage and hour violations, and wrongful discharge disputes. Mr. Guyette has extensive experience practicing in federal and state courts, before administrative agencies, and in various arbitration panels addressing employment compensation, retaliation, whistleblower and defamation claims. Mr. Guyette is also routinely sought out for his experience in the New York State Court system and extensive experience in the NYCPLR and local rules of practice.

Mr. Guyette brings a practical, business-minded approach to litigation. He is a firm believer that being “reasonable” wins the day. When early resolution is not feasible or optimal, Mr. Guyette has a proven track record of successfully defending his clients in litigation through motion practice and to verdict. Mr. Guyette is also adept at resolving disputes privately to mitigate costs, avoid negative public attention, and reduce burden for his clients’ businesses. He has successfully resolved hundreds of disputes, ranging from single-plaintiff employment claims to nationwide wage and hour class and collective actions among counsel and at mediation. When communications have broken down between the parties, Mr. Guyette is often called upon to revive constructive dialogue and achieve a resolution. He has been recognized by clients and adversaries alike for his advocacy, professionalism, and creativity in achieving pragmatic, effective, and final resolutions.

Prior to joining Vedder Price, Mr. Guyette served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel at the New York City Law Department Office of Corporation Counsel. Mr. Guyette has been recognized by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America Ones to Watch for Labor and Employment Law - Management since 2022. In 2016, Mr. Guyette received the Labor & Employment Law Division Chief Award for outstanding legal performance on behalf of the City of New York. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Guyette worked in New York State and Local Government, serving as a Chief of Staff to a NYC Council Member and Community Affairs Director for a NYS Senator.

In addition to his proficiency in the labor and employment legal landscape, Mr. Guyette is passionate about government and elections and continues to make voting rights and election protection part of his pro bono practice. This includes working with We the Action’s Election Protection project, which provides information and resources to voters across the country.
