James W. Morrissey is a Shareholder at Vedder Price, where he is Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions group and a member of the Finance & Transactions group.

Mr. Morrissey concentrates his practice in the representation of financial institutions and corporations and their officers, directors and shareholders in connection with mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, corporate finance, corporate governance and regulatory and compliance matters. He has represented clients in numerous bank and thrift mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions. In addition, he has extensive experience in representing clients with respect to various bank regulatory matters, including advising clients on fair lending, CRA, BSA and other regulatory matters. Mr. Morrissey also regularly assists clients in preparing for regulatory exams and responding to enforcement actions.

Mr. Morrissey also assists financial institutions with other strategic matters, such as new products and services and the establishment of de novo branches and banking institutions. Mr. Morrissey also assists financial institution clients with negotiating data processing, licensing, SaaS and similar vendor agreements. In addition, Mr. Morrissey works with Fintech companies and other financing companies on lending programs and licensing matters. He also regularly speaks and writes on various financial institutions topics.

Mr. Morrissey has been selected by his peers as a “Leading Lawyer” in Banking & Financial Institutions from 2013 to 2025. Since 2023, Mr. Morrissey has been recognized by Best Lawyers in the Banking and Finance Law and the Financial Services Regulation Law categories.
