Daniel Stander, a Solicitor in Vedder Price’s London office and member of the firm’s Employment group, recently wrote an article for HR Magazine outlining how employers should handle allegations of criminal behaviour in the workplace.

Mr. Stander covers procedures employers should follow when handling an allegation of employee law-breaking, particularly the implementation of a whistleblowing policy. According to Mr. Stander, whistleblowing policies provide employees with an avenue to report concerns, especially those that relate to their direct manager. Mr. Stander notes, “Businesses may wish to implement a whistleblowing policy to help encourage a culture of transparency and accountability. A well-written policy can help employees to report alleged criminal activity as soon as possible, in the knowledge that their concerns will be taken seriously and investigated and that their confidentiality will be protected.”
