Cheryl A. Sabnis is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment group in the San Francisco office.

Ms. Sabnis is a trial attorney and represents clients in disputes pending before federal and state courts and arbitral forums across the United States. She defends companies facing putative class, collective and representative actions as well as those involved in complex multi-party or single-plaintiff disputes. Beyond serving her clients’ litigation needs, Ms. Sabnis helps her clients manage employee-related crises and is regularly engaged to investigate allegations of workplace misconduct or misfortune. She regularly counsels and provides training regarding a broad range of employment-related matters. Benchmark recognizes her as a Labor & Employment Star and Law Dragon has named her a Leading U.S. Corporate Employment Lawyer.

Trials and Litigation

Ms. Sabnis routinely handles a wide range of claims, including wage and hour, Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), discrimination, harassment, retaliation, trade secrets theft, restrictive covenants enforcement, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, business torts, health and safety violations, and unfair competition.

Investigations and Crisis Management

Ms. Sabnis has served as lead investigator regarding a broad array of subject matter, including allegations of employee, officer and contractor misconduct, unlawful harassment, retaliation and discrimination, “midnight raids” by departing employees, sexual assault, threats of workplace violence, health and safety violations, and other inappropriate, unfortunate or unlawful conduct. She helps her clients respond to and manage employee-related crises strategically to achieve multiple goals, including not only a swift and effective response but also appropriate remedial action, minimization of litigation risk and exposure, preservation of evidence, implementation of policies and best practices to prevent future incidents and promote legal compliance, and promotion of a healthy corporate culture.

Counseling and Training

Ms. Sabnis counsels clients on classification of employees and contractors, overtime and other pay laws, incentive compensation, disability accommodation and the interactive process, leave laws, COVID-19 policies and procedures, workplace health and safety, drug testing, background checks, employment contracts, restrictive covenants, high-risk terminations, mass layoffs and reductions in force. She also provides specialized training to employers concerning the prevention of unlawful harassment and abusive conduct in the workplace and best practices for hiring, managing, disciplining and separating personnel.

Ms. Sabnis received her J.D. and B.A. from the University of Minnesota. She is licensed to practice in federal and state courts in California and Minnesota.
