On February 28, 2024, the SEC announced the departure of William Birdthistle, the Director of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management, effective March 8, 2024. Director Birdthistle was appointed in December 2021 and oversaw a number of significant proposed and final rulemakings. The announcement noted that Natasha Vij Greiner, the Deputy Director of the SEC’s Division of Examinations, would be named as the new Director of the Division of Investment Management. Deputy Director Greiner has served in various roles at the SEC for over 22 years, including Acting Chief Counsel and Assistant Chief Counsel in the Division of Trading and Markets and Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement. She also currently serves as the National Associate Director of the Investment Adviser/Investment Company (IA/IC) examination program and as the Associate Director of the Home Office IA/IC examination program.
