London Labor & Employment Partner Jonathan Maude was recently quoted in Management Today, discussing the fine line that bosses need to walk to avoid becoming a “micromanaging tyrant” while still maintaining a level of professionalism so to not lose the employees’ respect.
The article states that managers need to be courteous, lead with value and be transparent while still establishing boundaries. Mr. Maude notes that while becoming close with employees is important, “being too close to employees can make managing them very difficult, if not impossible.” He continues, “The manager can lose the respect of the team, lose the confidence of the employer and ultimately be left fighting for his or her reputation and career.”
