Daniel Stander, a Solicitor in Vedder Price’s London office and member of the firm’s Employment group, recently wrote an article for People Management discussing how and why a multinational UK company should implement a European Works Council (EWC), a forum where a multinational business can inform and consult employee representatives on workplace changes with cross-border implications, in the wake of Brexit. .
In the article, Mr. Stander explains that despite the UK’s departure from the European Union, London’s business-friendly atmosphere will leave many multinational businesses in need of an EWC. He answers questions relevant to multinational UK businesses including the qualifications an organization needs for an EWC, the factors to consider when deciding the EWC location and how to set up an EWC. Mr. Stander states, “The current Brexit landscape may spell the end of EWCs governed by UK law, but multinationals will still have a number of thorny issues to consider and competing interests to balance when taking action to establish an EWC.”
