Dana B. Mehlman is an Associate in the Chicago office of Vedder Price and a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation group and the Environmental group.
Dana B. Mehlman is an Associate in the Chicago office of Vedder Price and a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation group and the Environmental group.
Ms. Mehlman has over twenty years of experience in the environmental, health and safety and sustainability fields, spending the first third of her career practicing as an environmental engineer.
Ms. Mehlman focuses her legal practice on a diverse range of environmental matters, including due diligence compliance, policy, operations, permitting and enforcement actions in both transactional and litigation actions. She has represented dozens of clients in various phases of CERCLA action and remediation activities, from the initial receipt of notice to post-remedial action long-term stewardship and each milestone between.
Ms. Mehlman also has experience in advising clients in regards to implementation of wind energy conversion systems, siting of solid waste facilities including landfills, transfer stations and compost facilities, and with the technical and legal ramifications of subsurface soil and groundwater contamination.
Since 2021, Ms. Mehlman has been recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America in the field of Environmental Law. She has also been named to the National Law Journal’s inaugural list of Energy & Environmental Trailblazers.
Prior to joining Vedder Price, Ms. Mehlman worked as an Environmental Manager for the world’s largest fertilizer company, and previously served as a Geotechnical Engineer before attending law school at the University of Florida, where she received an Environmental and Land Use Law Certificate. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and she is a licensed Professional Engineer in both Illinois and Georgia.

Experience
- Negotiated Consent Agreement and Final Order with USEPA Region 5 leading to a reduction in RCRA
penalty proposed to client of $460,875 to only $20,000 plus completion of an innovative Supplemental
Environmental Project. - Evaluated commercial and manufacturing clients' product lines for California's Proposition 65
applicability and compliance. Defended clients against allegations of non-compliance with Proposition
65. - Served as environmental subject matter expert for corporate finance and transactions teams.
Performed due diligence through review of environmental site assessments, permits, and enforcement
documentation. Identify environmental risks and draft appropriate representations and warranties,
indemnities, insurance contract provisions, and disclosures to facilitate mergers and acquisitions of
companies with assets including contaminated and potentially contaminated properties.
