Elizabeth N. Hall serves as Chair of the Labor and Employment practice area at Vedder Price. She is also the Chicago office Chair of the firm’s women’s affinity group, Women at Vedder Empowering Success (WAVES), and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors

A significant portion of Ms. Hall’s daily practice involves providing practical advice and training to employers and executives regarding a variety of labor and employment issues, including managing the remote working environment; employee and applicant use of medical and recreational marijuana; risk management; effective employee discipline and discharge; workplace investigations; accommodating disabilities and pregnancy; workplace violence; managing leaves of absence and complying with FMLA and state leave requirements; workforce reductions; drafting and reviewing employment, recruitment and staffing agreements; policy and handbook development; and wage and hour compliance. Ms. Hall also has extensive experience drafting and negotiating severance, settlement and conciliation agreements on behalf of her clients. 

Ms. Hall also frequently acts as an independent investigator for her clients, and she has significant experience investigating allegations of discrimination, harassment and retaliation, as well as claims made by purported whistleblowers. 

Ms. Hall routinely conducts employment-related due diligence for clients, advising both buyers on their acquisition-related risks and sellers on issues which they can address prior to or which may raise issues during the sale process.

Ms. Hall represents a wide range of employers before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, as well as in arbitral forums, defending them against various claims, including single-plaintiff and class allegations of employment discrimination, failure to accommodate disabilities, sexual harassment, wrongful and retaliatory discharge, breach of contract, negligence, invasion of privacy and violations of the FMLA and wage and hour laws. Ms. Hall has successfully argued procedural and employment discrimination issues in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and has particular expertise in managing electronic discovery teams in complex litigation.

In 2022, Ms. Hall was recognized by Chambers USA “Labor & Employment: ‘The Elite’” in Illinois. Ms. Hall has also been recommended by The Legal 500 United States for the “Labor and Employment Disputes (including Collective Actions): Defense” category in 2017–2018 and 2020–2022, the “Labor & Employment: Labor-Management Relations” category in 2022 and the “Labor & Employment: Workplace & Employment Counseling” category in 2022. In 2018, she was named to the Crain’s Chicago Business “Chicago Notable Women Lawyers” list, and in 2022, she was named to the Crain’s Chicago Business "Notable Women in Law” list. She was also selected as an Emerging Lawyer from 2015 to 2020 and as a Leading Lawyer in 2020 and 2021.
