Attorneys Amy Bess and Sadina Montani, both members of Vedder Price’s Labor & Employment practice area, were recently recognized by the DC Bar Pro Bono Center’s Nonprofit Legal Assistance Program for their employment-related pro bono legal services provided to the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB).

The Nonprofit Legal Assistance Program strengthens the community by matching pro bono lawyers with nonprofit organizations serving the District’s low-income neighborhoods. The program is supported entirely by voluntary contributions from attorneys such as Ms. Bess and Ms. Montani. The program recently acknowledged their generous legal partners for providing pro bono legal services to 122 nonprofit organizations and training 1,179 nonprofit executives and managers in legal topics in 2016.

POB was originally founded in 1936 and is the largest local blindness prevention agency in the United States. POB provides comprehensive eye health care services to individuals throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Each year, POB screens more than 8,000 children for vision loss and strabismus and thousands of adults for glaucoma. POB also serves thousands of low-income and homeless individuals at its eyeglasses clinic each year. In 2016, POB presented its annual Appreciation Award to Ms. Bess, Ms. Montani and Vedder Price for their contributions to the organization through their provision of pro bono legal services.
