Vedder Thinking | News Sarah Shaw’s Comments from 9th Annual Chicagoland Retail and Mixed-Use Summit Published in RE Journals
September 17, 2018
Shareholder Sarah Shaw recently presented at the 9th Annual Chicagoland Retail and Mixed-Use Summit’s panel on the state of the commercial retail real estate market. Her comments were republished in RE Journals article, “Retail is Rebooted at the 2018 Retail & Mixed-Use Summit.”
Ms. Shaw covered some of the legal issues that may arise when “rebooting” shopping center space to meet the changing consumer interests and new tenant uses at the shopping centers commenting, “they are going to have to take a long, hard look at restrictions, such as parking and co-tenancy. Overarching all of that are the zoning laws.”
Ms. Shaw and her co-panelists also covered the retail trends, physical store locations and online retail and how shopping center owners are thinking outside the “box” (stores) to drive traffic to their properties, remain relevant and maintain net operating income.
