Daniel T. Sherlock

Daniel T. Sherlock has counseled corporate, limited liability company, partnership and individual clients on a wide range of tax matters.

He has substantial experience in taxable and nontaxable acquisitions and dispositions; private equity and venture capital investing; debt and equity restructurings; planning for specialized corporate entities such as S corporations and regulated investment companies; planning and structuring public and private investment vehicles, including the tax aspects of syndicated investments; and federal, state and local tax audits and controversies.

Mr. Sherlock is a frequent lecturer at seminars and group panel sessions on a broad range of tax-related topics, including the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, corporate and individual tax planning and controversies with federal and local tax authorities. He is the co-author of "Operating and Maintaining the S Corporation," a chapter of an Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education treatise on S corporations. Mr. Sherlock served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and was assigned to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York from 1982 through 1984. He is a member of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and the Federal Taxation Committee of the Chicago Bar Association.

Mr. Sherlock was selected for inclusion in 2005 and from 2011 to 2015 in Illinois Super Lawyers. He has also been selected by his peers since 2004 as a Leading Lawyer in Closely & Privately Held Business Law, Tax Law: Business and Tax Law: Individual.
