Philip N. Tankovich is an Associate in Vedder Price’s Los Angeles office and a member of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense group.
Mr. Tankovich is a multi-faceted attorney with litigation experience both in front of, and as part of the court. His expertise centers on federal criminal law. Having served as a federal prosecutor and as a law clerk to a federal judge, Mr. Tankovich pursues litigation by anticipating the opposing party’s arguments and effectively convincing the court of his client’s position. Mr. Tankovich also has experience with complex civil litigation and intellectual property law.
Mr. Tankovich has a proven track record at trial. As a Special Assistant U.S. States Attorney for the Eastern District of California, he won all five cases that he took to trial, and if the case didn’t proceed to trial, he led investigations with an array of federal law enforcement agencies to successfully negotiate plea agreements. He provided training to multiple federal law enforcement agencies to refine their evidence-gathering abilities and bolster the prosecution’s successfulness at trial. As a result, he thoroughly understands the techniques used by the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO), Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other federal law enforcement agencies to pursue their goals. Mr. Tankovich now uses this knowledge to defend clients who are subject to investigations by the federal government. Mr. Tankovich also has robust experience with Presidential Pardons.
Prior to joining Vedder Price, Mr. Tankovich served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood in the U.S. District Court of Guam, where he gained insight into the inner workings of a judge’s decision-making process. As a result, he has a thorough understanding of which arguments are effective and convincing, and uses to this knowledge to convey his client’s position effectively and economically.
