Philip N. Tankovich

Associate

Philip N. Tankovich is an Associate in Vedder Price’s Los Angeles office and a member of the firm’s Government Investigations & White Collar Defense group.

Mr. Tankovich is a multi-faceted attorney with litigation experience both, in front of and as part of the court. His expertise includes complex civil litigation, intellectual property law and federal criminal law. Having served as private counsel to both plaintiffs and defendants, as a federal prosecutor and as a law clerk to a federal judge, Mr. Tankovich pursues litigation by anticipating the opposing party’s arguments and effectively convincing the court of his client’s position.

Mr. Tankovich has a proven track record at trial. As a Special Assistant U.S. States Attorney for the Eastern District of California, he won all five cases that he took to trial, and if the case didn’t proceed to trial, he led investigations with an array of federal law enforcement agencies to successfully negotiate plea agreements. He provided training to multiple federal law enforcement agencies to refine their evidence-gathering abilities and bolster the prosecution’s successfulness at trial. As a result, he thoroughly understands the techniques used by the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO), Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and other federal law enforcement agencies to pursue their goals. Mr. Tankovich now uses this knowledge to defend clients who are subject to investigations by the federal government.

Prior to joining Vedder Price, Mr. Tankovich served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood in the U.S. District Court of Guam, where he gained insight into the mechanics of federal court and the inner workings of a judge’s decision-making process. As a result, he has a thorough understanding of which arguments are effective and convincing before the court which he uses to convey his client’s position effectively and economically.
