Michael J. Waters, a Vedder Price Shareholder in the Chicago office, recently participated in a Q&A with Forbes regarding the state of cyber defense litigation and how companies can prepare for data breach class action lawsuits. Mr. Waters (CIPP/US) counsels clients in all industry sectors on privacy and data security issues. He assists clients in preparing for and responding to data breaches, and represents clients in litigation and regulatory agency investigations related to privacy and technology matters.
In the article, he discusses the lack of universal standards in cyber defense litigation, but how the government is working to clarify how company negligence will impact the severity of fines imposed due to a breach. Mr. Waters also cites a few high profile examples of data breaches and how each company was affected.
