Michael G. Cleveland, a Vedder Price Shareholder and member of the firm’s Labor and Employment group, will speak during the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI’s) “Understanding Employment Law 2013” primer at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center in downtown Chicago. This comprehensive workshop will provide a fundamental review of employment law and major regulations and case law governing the employer-employee relationship and offer practical pointers ranging from hiring to firing and everything in between. Select topics to be covered include the latest issues on outsourcing and independent contractors in addition to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) wage and hour updates.

Mr. Cleveland’s session, titled “Ethical Practices in Hiring and Disciplining Employees,” will address the use of social media in hiring and will also take an in-depth look at the interview and disciplinary processes.
