Melissa W. Kopit is an Associate in the Washington, DC office of Vedder Price and a member of the firm's Finance & Transactions and Global Transportation Finance teams, whose performance led Vedder Price to be named Airline Economics Aviation 100 Law Firm of the Year in 2015 and 2017.

She concentrates her practice in corporate and financial transactions, with a focus on secured lending and asset finance, particularly commercial and business aircraft, helicopters and general equipment assets. 

Ms. Kopit counsels and represents lenders, borrowers, lessors, lessees, equity participants and other financiers in a wide variety of cross-border and domestic transactions, including secured debt transactions, revolving credit facilities, back-leveraged and operating lease facilities, portfolio acquisitions, asset-backed structured financings, and capital markets offerings. Ms. Kopit also counsels clients on matters regarding aviation regulatory compliance and enforcement.

While in law school, Ms. Kopit served on the Article Selection Committee for The George Washington International Law Review and chaired the Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition for the Mock Trial Board.

Prior to joining Vedder Price, Ms. Kopit interned for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia and the U.S. Department of Justice. Additionally, she represented clients in contract and employment matters as a student attorney through the Public Justice Advocacy Clinic.
