On January 15, 2013, Lyle Zuckerman and Laura Sack, Vedder Price Shareholders and members of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice, led a discussion on social media and the workplace at Grant Thornton’s Quarterly Not-for-Profit Seminar. The audience included more than 200 senior financial, administrative and legal professionals from a diverse array of notable not-for-profit organizations, including schools, hospitals, museums, and charities. In the course of their presentation, Mr. Zuckerman and Ms. Sack discussed employee misuse of social media; employer use of social media in the hiring process; and best practices for employers wishing to regulate and monitor employee use of social media without running afoul of the National Labor Relations Act. Both Mr. Zuckerman and Ms. Sack speak regularly on these topics and advise clients on issues pertaining to social media in the workplace, and both have long served as counsel to a substantial number of not-for-profit entities.
