Vedder Price is pleased to announce that incoming first-year Finance & Transactions associate Katie Behzad has been selected as the firm’s second Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) Graduate Fellow.

Vedder Price is sponsoring Behzad’s work with the Bluhm Legal Clinic’s Children and Family Justice Center (, as part of the PILI Graduate Fellowship Program, which allows an incoming first-year associate to work at a public interest legal aid organization in Illinois while studying for the Bar Exam. Starting May 16th, Behzad will dedicate 300 hours to pro bono legal services prior to beginning work as a first-year associate.

“We are delighted to continue to expand our partnership with Vedder Price and have Katie engaged and participating in this year’s PILI Fellowship Program,” said Brent Page, Senior Managing Attorney, Public Interest Law Initiative. “Vedder Price is strongly committed to providing pro bono legal assistance and encouraging that commitment in their new associates, and we are happy to have Katie continue that tradition as a PILI Fellow this summer.”  

Through participating in the PILI program, Behzad will be working closely with the Children and Family Justice Center this summer. The Children and Family Justice Center represents young people on a variety of matters, from delinquency to immigration and asylum cases to criminal justice work. Behzad’s work will focus on supporting youth and young adults who have come into contact with the law and are now seeking to return to their families and communities. Additionally, the Center works on a wide array of systemic reforms focused on policy initiatives that advocate for children and adolescents. 

PILI ensures quality supervision by experienced attorneys and provides extra educational, networking and advising opportunities. Additionally, PILI’s mission is to engage, inspire and empower those advancing equal access to justice. Shareholders Daniel Lange and Patrick Spangler serve on the PILI Board of Directors as Secretary and Board Member, respectively.
