Joshua Nichols is an Associate in Vedder Price’s Litigation practice area.

Mr. Nichols has extensive experience in defending corporations, directors and officers and other individuals, and registered investment advisers in government investigations. He has defended investigations by the SEC, DOJ, FDIC, SIGTARP, OCC, CFTC, CME, and state attorneys general. His SEC experience includes drafting responses to examination deficiency letters, self-reporting violations of the securities laws, responding to enforcement subpoenas and document requests, preparing and presenting witnesses for testimony, making presentations to the SEC staff throughout the enforcement process, all aspects of the Wells process, and litigation. His DOJ experience includes cross-border enforcement and compliance counseling on FCPA and antitrust matters, defending PCA investigation, defending healthcare-related investigations, and responding to investigative demands. Mr. Nichols also has significant experience conducting internal investigations, having served as the lead associate on investigations for entities ranging from large public companies to small SEC registrants.

 

Additionally, Mr. Nichols counsels and represents clients on a wide variety of business and commercial disputes in both state and federal court as well as before FINRA and the American Arbitration Association.

 

Since 2016, Mr. Nichols has been selected for inclusion as an Illinois Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine.  He has authored numerous articles on the topic of SEC and DOJ enforcement trends.

 

While attending the University of Illinois College of Law, Mr. Nichols was an articles editor for the University of Illinois Law Review. As part of the college’s Federal Civil Rights Clinic, he served as lead counsel in a federal trial on a Section 1983 civil rights claim, for which he received a pro bono notation and a CALI Award.
