Joshua J. Orewiler is an Associate at Vedder Price and a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation group.

Mr. Orewiler counsels and advises both entities and individuals, with an emphasis on providing excellent client service and zealous representation in litigation.  Mr. Orewiler has a wide range of litigation experience in state and federal courts at both the trial court and appellate levels.

Commercial Litigation and Trial Experience

Mr. Orewiler has more than a decade of experience representing clients in state and federal courts, including in actions for breach of contract, fraud, trade secret misappropriation, tortious interference with contract, civil conspiracy, restrictive covenant violations, minority shareholder oppression, breach of fiduciary duty and other business tort matters. Mr. Orewiler has handled cases in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit demands and requests for emergency injunctive relief to trial and post-trial motions.  Mr. Orewiler served as plaintiff’s trial counsel in a construction fraud case resulting in a jury verdict of more than $20 million.  Mr. Orewiler has also successfully obtained summary judgment for clients in breach-of-contract and other commercial litigation cases. He has been selected as an Emerging Lawyer, an affiliate of Leading Lawyers, since 2019.

Appellate Experience

Mr. Orewiler has experience handling appeals in Illinois Appellate Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  He has obtained decisions from the Illinois Appellate Court affirming the grant of summary judgment and motions to dismiss on behalf of clients.  Mr. Orewiler has also argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, including in a multimillion-dollar fraud and breach-of-contract case.

Trade Secret Misappropriation and Restrictive Covenants

Mr. Orewiler devotes a significant portion of his practice to prosecuting and defending claims for trade secret misappropriation under both state trade secret statutes, as well as the federal Defend Trade Secrets Act. In addition, Mr. Orewiler prosecutes and defends cases involving restrictive covenant violations in state and federal courts.  Mr. Orewiler also has experience representing clients in claims alleging restrictive covenant violations in FINRA arbitration proceedings.

Minority Shareholder Oppression

Mr. Orewiler has significant experience representing clients in minority shareholder oppression cases seeking share purchase remedies, monetary damages and other equitable and statutory relief.  Mr. Orewiler zealously represents clients in shareholder oppression cases that proceed to litigation, with an aim to obtain the best possible result for the client, whether through trial or settlement.

Corporate Liability and Counseling

In addition, Mr. Orewiler advises clients on corporate liability issues and managing litigation-related risks.  Mr. Orewiler always strives to provide practical and easy-to-understand advice to help corporate clients mitigate risks associated with potential litigation.
