John H. Eickemeyer, a Shareholder in the New York office and Co-Chair of the Accounting Law practice group, co-authored a recent article in the January edition of the CPA Journal, a publication of the New York State Society of CPAs. In his article, "The Concerns with Going Concern," Mr. Eickemeyer discusses the uncertainty in forecasting the economy and how the going concern assumption can "hasten the entity’s demise" by creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. He goes on to compare the different financial information available regarding public vs. privately held companies and how investors, lenders and lending institutions are able to analyze data differently to make a reasoned determination about a company's ability to continue as a going concern.
