Vedder Thinking | Articles Intellectual Property Team Authors Patent Article in Journal of Commercial Biotechnology
Thomas J. Kowalski and Deborah L. Lu, Shareholders in the firm's Intellectual Property group, recently authored an article that appears in the July 2012 issue of the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology.
The importance of laboratory notebooks has long been touted in the United States to prove a date of invention. With the dawning of the first-to-file era in the United States, the importance of laboratory notebooks has been questioned. In their article, titled "Are Laboratory Notebooks Necessary in a First Inventor to File World?" Mr. Kowalski, Ms. Lu and Ms. Uthaman offer their perspective on the importance of laboratory notebooks in a first-to-file regime.
The July 2012 issue of the Journal of Commercial Biotechnology will also be distributed at the annual BIO International Convention, being held June 18-21 in Boston. All three Vedder Price professionals will attend the convention, where Mr. Kowalski will lead a panel discussion on the America Invents Act and how it compares to practice in Europe. For more information on his session, visit the convention website.
