Vedder Price’s Global Transportation Finance team represented Airbus S.A.S. in a transaction with American Airlines that is being hailed as “the biggest airline order in history.”

Last week, American Airlines agreed to acquire 460 new aircraft over the next several years—260 of which are from Airbus—in a move to update its fleet and stem losses incurred by escalating fuel prices. The list price of the aircraft is valued at approximately $38 billion.

American Airlines, which currently flies an all-Boeing fleet, will start taking deliveries of Airbus’s A320 family aircraft in 2013, with options and purchase rights for as many as 365 more A320 and A320neo family aircraft.

Vedder Price advised Airbus in connection with the financing support provided by the manufacturer to the airline.
