Vedder Thinking | News Jonathan Bogaard Weighs in on Boeing 717 Demand Turnaround in Bloomberg Article
September 15, 2015
Jonathan H. Bogaard, a Vedder Price Shareholder and member of the firm’s Global Transportation Finance team, was quoted in a recent Bloomberg article titled "How a Boeing Sales Flop Became the World’s Hottest Secondhand Jetliner." The article describes how Chicago-based Boeing Co.’s 717 jetliner went from sales dud to one of the most sought-after aircraft in the world.
In terms of current potential buyers for the 717, Mr. Bogaard said a lack of commonality with Boeing’s 737 may curb demand in Africa and other emerging markets that typically snap up older planes, though the 717s eventually could be refitted again to serve as freighters. Mr. Bogaard added, “It’s a very good aircraft. It just never caught on.”
