Amal Rafiq is an Associate in Vedder Price’s Washington, DC office and a member of the firm’s Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits group.

Ms. Rafiq focuses her practice on employee benefits and executive compensation matters.

Her employee benefits experience includes advising clients with regard to ERISA and Internal Revenue Code compliance for retirement and welfare plans. She regularly assists with U.S. Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service correction programs, and she provides her expertise in identifying and resolving employee benefits issues in the context of mergers and acquisitions.

In addition to her employee benefits practice, Ms. Rafiq represents executives and companies in executive employment and executive compensation and benefit agreement design, including incentive compensation and deferred compensation agreements, severance agreements and change-in-control programs.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rafiq represented employers and multiemployer benefit funds, including defined benefit pension plans, defined contribution plans, health and welfare plans, and training funds, in various compliance areas including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code. She advised clients on fiduciary responsibilities including prohibited transactions, conflicts of interest, plan investments and plan service provider contracts, and she has represented multiemployer funds in ERISA litigation.

Ms. Rafiq’s variety of pro bono experience includes second parent adoption petitions and hearings, U-Visa petitions for domestic violence victims, and corporate and employee benefits governance for small businesses.

Ms. Rafiq received her law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law and her undergraduate degree from George Mason University. While in law school she was a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Marlene Lachman, Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.

Ms. Rafiq is proficient in Urdu and Hindi.
