Vedder Price Shareholder Thomas G. Hancuch and senior Associate Patrick W. Spangler, both members of the firm's Labor & Employment practice area, will speak at the upcoming American Bar Association's Joint Committee on Employee Benefits' ERISA Litigation National Institute on May 13–14 in Chicago. The program is designed for litigators, practitioners and specialists who regularly handle ERISA cases and matters and wish to enhance their substantive ERISA knowledge.

Mr. Hancuch's presentation, "Health Care Claims and Related Litigation Under ACA," will analyze and discuss the latest litigation issues raised by the Affordable Care Act, such as the implications of the ACA's external review requirements; ACA discrimination, retaliation and whistleblower claims under section 1558; and benefit claims based upon ACA benefit mandates, as well as much more.

Mr. Spangler will be speaking on two topics during the two-day conference. The first presentation, "Withdrawal Liability, Collections and Other Issues Unique to Multi-Employer Plans," will examine the substantive and procedural background underlying withdrawal liability and collection litigation. The second presentation, "ERISA Remedies," will provide a brief overview of the types of remedies available under ERISA's major enforcement provisions. The session will also include recent and pending cases on the scope of monetary relief under section 502(a)(3), as well as plan terms limiting the availability of equitable remedies.
