Our clients come from a broad spectrum of industries, and we are involved in the financing of an extensive range of transactions for lessees and lessors, charterers and owners, borrowers and lenders, private and public companies, manufacturers, underwriters, private equity houses and governmental agencies. Long considered industry leaders in the global transportation industry, the scope of our transportation finance practice often includes related practice areas such as asset securitization and capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, maritime regulation, tax, restructuring and insolvency and structured and project finance. The Global Transportation Finance team has a depth and breadth of experience and industry knowledge that surpass other law firms. The diversity of our client base, transaction structures and asset types affords us unique insight into market standards and practices. This insight creates our unequaled ability to take a practical, market-based approach to transactions and to provide efficient, insightful legal advice, while maintaining a results-oriented focus.

Our Maritime practice group is integral to the Global Transportation Finance team and represents nearly all segments of the maritime industry throughout the world, delivering advice under U.S. and English law, with extensive familiarity with the legal regimes of the leading open registries. Attorneys in the Maritime practice group have substantial experience in all types of finance transactions involving maritime and offshore assets of every type, including vessels that are engaged in international, inland and domestic transportation of cargo and passengers, offshore construction and oil exploration, intermodal containers, chassis, barges, rail-mounted terminal cranes, terminal facilities, bridge training simulators and even tourist submarines and ferries. We represent lenders and borrowers, lessors and lessees, shipbuilders, marine terminal operators, owners and charterers, and other parties in structuring and documenting maritime and offshore finance transactions of varying size, type and complexity, including syndicated and bilateral loans, export credit structures, debt capital markets, sale and leaseback transactions, finance and leveraged leases, cross-border leases, operating leases, bareboat charters and other types of charters. We have experience with workouts and restructurings as well as with maritime and offshore construction contracts, ship registration and mortgage recordation laws in the various registry jurisdictions.

Members of our team have taught maritime law, authored numerous scholarly and trade articles, and delivered many presentations around the world on subjects related to their practice and experience. They have also advised open registries and have drafted legislation and regulatory provisions to facilitate the financing and ownership of vessels adopted in several jurisdictions.
