New York Bar Association presents Bridging the Gap: Basics of Employment Law
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This program is designed for recent law school graduates and newly admitted attorneys to “bridge the gap” between law school and the realities of practicing law in New York State. Learn practical information from skilled and experienced practitioners and get the skills you need to make a smooth transition from law student to attorney. Experienced attorneys who have an interest in other areas of practice can also attend and benefit from this program.
This live and interactive video conference is approved for MCLE credit for all attorneys, including newly admitted. The New York City location has already sold out, but seats are still available at the Albany location. The faculty will speak from the New York City location and will interact live in “real time” with the attendees in Albany.
Day 1 includes segments on Consulting with the Client and Moving the Matrimonial Case through the System; Ethical Issues: Attorney Escrow Accounts; The Practice of Law; The Disciplinary Process; Understanding the New Power of Attorney Statute; Surrogate’s Court Practice and Proceedings; Using Mediation: What You Need to Know to Make the Process Successful; Business Entities and Representing the Small Business and offers 3.0 credits in skills, 3.5 in areas of professional practice, and 1.5 in ethics.
Day 2 includes segments on Basics of Handling a Worker’s Comp Case; Issues in Consumer Bankruptcies; Basics of Employment Law; Ethical Issues: The New Rules of Professional Conduct; Fundamentals of Depositions; Burden of Proof and offers 3.0 credits in skills, 3.5 in areas of professional practice and 1.5 in ethics.
