Jeffery M. Heftman joined Vedder Price as an associate in the firm’s Litigation Practice in 2002. Mr. Heftman focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including contract disputes, misappropriation of confidential information and trade secrets, and other business tort matters in both state and federal court, and at the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Heftman has experience representing financial institutions against individual and consumer class actions involving claims under the Truth in Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and various state consumer protection statutes.
Mr. Heftman has litigated numerous intellectual property matters, including cases alleged trade secrets misappropriation, antitrust and trade regulation, trademark and trade dress infringement. Mr. Heftman has also defended and prosecuted cases involving the enforcement of employee restrictive covenants, from the interlocutory/temporary restraining order phase through appeal.
In addition to his practice before state and federal courts, Mr. Heftman has also appeared in arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers.
Mr. Heftman also has experience in the investigation and trial of matters involving federal and state environmental issues, including government and private cost recovery and contribution actions under CERCLA, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) claims, groundwater contamination claims, and administrative and private actions pertaining to environmental contamination claims.
He is also a member of the firm’s records management team, counsels clients on record retention and eDiscovery issues, and has spoken on a variety of topics relating to records retention, e-mail and electronic discovery.
Mr. Heftman is a 2002 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, where he served as Articles Editor on the University of Illinois Law Review. Mr. Heftman lives on the north side of Chicago with his wife, Michele.
