Dan O’Rourke is a senior member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. The Financial Institutions Group (FIG) was recently named one of the Ten Best U.S. Banking Law Firms by Bank Director Magazine. As a member of FIG, Mr. O’Rourke represents banks, thrifts and other financial institutions, as well as investment banks that specialize in financial intermediaries.
Dan was recently named as one of the Best Lawyers in America by that authoritative publication, a “Top Lawyer” by Corporate Counsel and an “Illinois Leading Lawyer” for his expertise in banking law.
Dan has extensive experience in representing banks and others in international transactions. He has represented several foreign purchasers of U.S. banking institutions and U.S. owners of foreign institutions.
Dan was the first Chair of the Vedder Price Financial Institutions Group which was organized in 1989. He also chaired the group from 2000 to 2004. From 1994 to 1997, Dan served as Chair of Vedder Price’s Corporate Practice Group.
Mr. O’Rourke is active in pro bono matters and is Vice-Chair of the Vedder Price Pro Bono Committee. Dan’s pro bono activity includes his representation of indigents seeking to adopt disadvantaged children through the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation. In recognition of his efforts, Dan was awarded the CVLS Distinguished Service Award twice—for 2003 and 2004. The Chicago Bar Association honored Dan for his pro bono efforts in 1997 and 1998.
Dan is the father of five and grandfather of nine. He resides with his wife Kate in Winnetka, Illinois. Besides his family, Dan enjoys golf, his Golden Retrievers, weight training and college sports—especially college football (he attended Holy Cross on a football scholarship).
