Daniel O’Rourke is a senior member of the Vedder Price Financial Institutions group. The Financial Institutions group (FIG), now in its 22nd year, has been recognized as one of the "Ten Best US Banking Law Firms" by Bank Director magazine. As a member of FIG, Mr. O’Rourke represents banks and thrifts and their officers and directors, as well as investment banks that specialize in financial intermediaries. He was the first Chair of the Financial Institutions group, which he helped organize in 1989. He led the firm’s Corporate practice as its Chair from 1994 to 1997.
Mr. O’Rourke was selected by his peers from 2008 to 2012 for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America. He was also selected for inclusion from 2010 to 2012 in Illinois Super Lawyers and was selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in Banking and Financial Institutions Law. Mr. O’Rourke also maintains an "AV Preeminent" Peer Rating in Martindale-Hubbell. His practice includes mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and fiduciary duty issues, bank regulatory and enforcement matters, contested corporate matters and distressed assets and institutions transactions.
Having authored more than twenty published articles on the strategic, legal and regulatory affairs of financial institutions and their affiliates, Dan is also a frequent panelist at industry conferences regarding these issues.
Mr. O’Rourke is active in pro bono matters and is Vice Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. His pro bono activity includes his representation of indigents seeking to adopt disadvantaged children through the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, where he serves as Vice President of Client Services and is on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. In recognition of his efforts, Mr. O’Rourke was awarded the CVLS Distinguished Service Award twice—in 2003 and 2004. The Chicago Bar Association honored him for his pro bono efforts in both 1997 and 1998.
The father of five and the grandfather of fourteen, Dan resides with his wife Kate in Winnetka, Illinois. Besides his large family, he enjoys American history, gardening, golf, golden retrievers, weight training and college sports—especially college football (Dan attended Holy Cross on a football scholarship).
