Caryl C. Ben Basat joined Vedder Price in 2008 as a shareholder and a member of the firm’s Equipment Finance Group.

Ms. Ben Basat concentrates her practice in the areas of aviation, aircraft acquisition and finance, ship acquisition and finance, structured lending and general corporate business transactions. She represents domestic and foreign air carriers, lessors and lenders in aircraft and engine acquisition, lease, finance and sales transactions, cross border leveraged leases, operating leases and securitizations as well as unsecured loans, cargo handling agreements, maintenance agreements, airline mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and commercial matters. She also represents companies in the acquisition, finance and sale of yachts and cruise ships.

Recent Experience
  • Represented a  U.S. airline in the negotiation of an agreement with a manufacturer to purchase new aircraft worth over $3 billion dollars and with major international lessor to lease 20 new aircraft.
  • Represented a U.S. airline in negotiation of engine purchase and fleet hour maintenance agreements with engine manufacturer worth over $2 billion dollars.
  • Served as U.S. counsel to a Russian airline in the acquisition and financing of an aircraft out of a bankrupt U.S. carrier's EETC financing structure.
  • Represented Russian carrier in the purchasing, financing, storage and ferrying of four used Boeing aircraft acquired in a U.S. foreclosure auction.
  • Represented European lessor in the negotiation of cross border operating leases in countries throughout the world including China, New Zealand, Spain, Brazil and France.
  • Represented a Central American airline transitioning to a new fleet in a series of aircraft lease purchase transactions with successful South American start-up carrier.
