Chair, Professional/D & O Liability
John H. Eickemeyer is a shareholder in the New York office of Vedder Price and heads the firm’s Directors and Officers/Professional Liability Litigation Practice Groups. Mr. Eickemeyer has been engaged for many years in the defense of liability claims against accountants and attorneys, including claims based on alleged audit and review failures, negligent tax advice and tax preparation, and alleged failures to detect defalcations. Mr. Eickemeyer regularly advises accounting firms with respect to risk management strategies and potential liability situations, and represents accountants in administrative, regulatory and disciplinary proceedings. Mr. Eickemeyer has also assisted accounting firms with a variety of transactional issues.
Mr. Eickemeyer is the co-founder and co-chair of the annual ALI-ABA program on Accountants’ Liability and is the co-author, with Dan L. Goldwasser and Thomas Arnold, of the PLI Accountants' Liability treatise. Mr. Eickemeyer is also the author of The CPA's Partnership Agreement and regularly speaks on topics of interest to the accounting profession, such as techniques for managing liability risks, record retention and the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation on the accounting profession. Mr. Eickemeyer is a member of the Board of Governors of the Accountants Club of America and of the New York State Society of CPA’s Quality Enhancement Policy Committee.
In addition to his representation of the accounting profession, Mr. Eickemeyer has also litigated extensively on behalf of insurance carriers in complex coverage cases, including cases involving coverage for toxic waste, lead paint and asbestos claims and claims arising from use of allegedly defective products. Mr. Eickemeyer has also litigated a wide variety of attorneys’ liability, securities, commercial and antitrust cases.
