Jonathan H. Bogaard is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and a founding member of the Global Transportation Finance team. He concentrates his practice in corporate and tax matters relating to equipment leasing and finance.
Mr. Bogaard has been extensively involved in various airline restructurings of aircraft finance transactions, including public debt transactions, cross-border financings, leveraged leases, structured financings and manufacturer supported financings. Mr. Bogaard has participated in financings involving aircraft valued at over $30 billion throughout his career, with significant exposure to foreign sales corporations and cross-border leasing. He also has significant experience in leasing transactions involving other types of equipment, including computers, trucks and medical and telephone equipment.
Mr. Bogaard provides advice in corporate reorganizations and restructurings, cross-border transactions, taxation of financial instruments, private placements, planning for closely held corporations, planning for the utilization of net operating loss carryovers, audits and controversies, and bankruptcy. He also handles accounting issues for exempt organizations, including inventories, original issue discount and imputed interest.
A certified public accountant, Mr. Bogaard has lectured at programs sponsored by the American Conference Institute, The Institute for International Research, The FSS/DISC Tax Association and numerous others. He has written for several publications, including the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) handbooks.
In 2001, Mr. Bogaard was named one of the leading aviation law practitioners worldwide by Airlines International and American Lawyer Media, and was recognized as one of the world’s leading aviation lawyers by Euromoney Publications in 2000 and 2002. He also appeared in the 2008 edition of Who’s Who Legal and was ranked in Chambers USA’s Nationwide Transportation: Aviation: Finance category in 2010.
