Christopher P. Moreno is a member of the Intellectual Property Group at Vedder Price. Mr. Moreno has significant experience counseling a broad array of technology companies in a wide variety of technically complex subject matters, including medical devices, wireless communication systems, communication networks, signal processing, semiconductor devices, computer software and business methods. Drawing upon his prior work as an electrical engineer in the field of digital signal processing, Mr. Moreno has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications, both domestically and abroad.
He regularly advises clients on various aspects of intellectual property portfolio development, including the preparation of patent infringement and validity studies, as well as trademark applications and clearance opinions. He has successfully resolved foreign oppositions and appealed adverse decisions by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. Mr. Moreno has provided support in a number of litigation matters, particularly in developing theories of infringement/noninfringement and assessing the validity of patent claims and also in drafting appellate briefs. He has also served as opinion counsel, assessing noninfringement positions concerning the products of various clients.
Mr. Moreno has developed an understanding of the needs of clients through his previous in-house experience, most recently as general counsel at a venture-backed, medical device startup and, prior to that, in the Intellectual Property department at Motorola, Inc.
Mr. Moreno was named one of the "2010 Top 100 Influentials" by HispanicBusiness magazine. He was also selected by his peers for inclusion in Illinois Rising Stars 2008 and 2009 editions.
