John I. Karesh is a shareholder in Vedder Price concentrating in the areas of aviation and equipment finance. He represents domestic and international lenders and lessors in a variety of domestic and cross-border aircraft finance transactions including mortgage financing and operating leases. He also represents aircraft owners and operators in domestic and cross-border purchases, sales, financing and leasing of aircraft.
He has represented lessors and lenders in most of the major airline bankruptcies in connection with the repossession of aircraft and the restructuring of debt and lease financing transactions. He served as a lead negotiator in the TWA bankruptcy case concerning the Section1110 stipulation on behalf of various aircraft lessors and lenders and in connection with the out-of-court restructuring of Midwest Express Airlines.
Mr. Karesh is a frequent speaker at firm-sponsored and industry seminars and is the author of "Repossession and Foreclosure of Aircraft from the Perspective of the FAA and UCC," 65 Journal of Air Law and Commerce, 2000; "Repossession of Collateral and Foreclosure of Security Interests in Leveraged Lease Aircraft Finance Transactions," 10 Air and Space Lawyer 9, Fall, 1995; "Issues Affecting Administrative Claim Status and Other Remedies for Aircraft Lessors in Airline Bankruptcies," Journal of Bankruptcy Law & Commerce, May/June1997. Mr. Karesh is named in The International Who's Who of Aviation Lawyers (2006).
