John I. Karesh is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and a member of the Global Transportation Finance team. He concentrates his practice in the areas of aviation finance and equipment leasing, representing lenders and lessors in a variety of domestic and cross-border aircraft finance transactions, including mortgage financing and operating leases; and investors and operators in domestic and cross-border purchases, sales and financing of aircraft. Mr. Karesh represents lessors and lenders in the enforcement of creditors’ rights and in aircraft finance and leasing disputes. He has also served as counsel to lenders and lessors in the majority of all major airline bankruptcies over the past two decades in connection with the repossession of aircraft and the restructuring of debt and lease transactions.

A frequent speaker at industry seminars, Mr. Karesh has written for several industry publications, and he is the author of "Solving Issues with Third-Party Maintenance Contracts," Airline Economics, September/October 2011. He is also the author of "Foreclosure on Collateral That Includes Intangible Rights," 42 Uniform Commercial Law Journal, 123 (February 2010); "Repossession and Foreclosure of Aircraft from the Perspective of the FAA and UCC," 65 Journal of Air Law & Commerce (Fall 2000); and "Issues Affecting Administrative Claim Status and Other Remedies for Aircraft Lessors in Airline Bankruptcies," Journal of Bankruptcy Law & Commerce (May/June 1997). Mr. Karesh co-authored "Strategic Issues in Operating Leases," which was published in the 2009 Euromoney World Leasing Yearbook.

Mr. Karesh has been recognized in The International Who’s Who of Aviation Lawyers (2006–11); was selected for New York Super Lawyers in 2007, 2009–2011; and was also was named a leading lawyer in Aviation Lawyers in 2009. Mr. Karesh was named in the Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers (2008), has been ranked globally in Chambers Global for Asset Finance (2007), was named in the International Financial Law Review Expert’s Guide for Aviation Lawyers (2007) and was recognized as "Best of the Best" in the Aviation Lawyer category by Euromoney Publications (2007). In addition, Mr. Karesh received an "AV Preeminent" Peer Rating in Martindale-Hubbell.
