Richard H. Sanders is a Shareholder at Vedder Price and has provided legal counsel to a broad range of health care providers, including health care systems, hospitals, physicians, provider networks and managed care organizations, regarding corporate, governance, regulatory and transactional issues, including tax, reimbursement and antitrust implications of structural changes, affiliations and hospital-physician and managed care relationships.
Mr. Sanders is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law teaching a full credit course entitled “Health Law Organizations and Transactions” and has been a frequent writer and speaker on legal and policy issues involving managed care, provider network structures and physician-hospital relations. He is an editor and chapter author of the American Health Lawyers Association publication, the Managed Care Contracting Handbook (1993) and Health Plans Contracting Handbook (Fifth Edition, 2008). Mr. Sanders is a chapter author of The Law of Medical Practice in Illinois (3d Edition 2007). He is also the co-author of The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same: An Analysis of the Impact of the HIPAA Privacy Rule on Illinois Mental Health Care Providers (7 DePaul J. Health Care L.1 (2003)). He also served on the inaugural Editorial Board of Illinois Child Welfare , a multidisciplinary journal dedicated to improving services for children and their families.
Mr. Sanders also is a mediator and arbitrator and is listed on the panel of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Service of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Mr. Sanders is a member of the Chicago and Illinois Bar Associations and is a past Chairman of the Health Care Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. He also maintains active membership in the American, Indiana and District of Columbia Bar Associations and their respective health law committees, as well as the American Health Lawyers Association and the Illinois Association of Health Care Attorneys. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Sanders was selected for inclusion from 2005 to 2012 in Illinois Super Lawyers and in 2011 was named one of the Leading Illinois Health Lawyers by Leading Lawyers Network. In addition, he received an "AV Preeminent" Peer Rating in Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Sanders formerly served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and its Board of Directors, as well as having been a member and Chairman of the firm’s Compensation Committee.
