Matthew F. Carmody joined the Litigation Practice Area of Vedder Price in 2006 from the international law firm DLA Piper LLP. Mr. Carmody’s practice focuses on representing public and private companies and their executives in a vast array of complex commercial and securities litigation matters.
Mr. Carmody has achieved significant dispositive victories for his clients in forums throughout the United States, as well as before organizations such as the NASD and AAA. He has handled disputes from pre-litigation stages through arbitration and trial, and has mediated numerous favorable settlements. Mr. Carmody has wide-ranging experience dealing with securities fraud, Sarbanes-Oxley, products liability and consumer class actions.
Mr. Carmody has participated in white collar criminal defense and has counseled clients in connection with FBI and SEC inquiries. He also has represented clients in connection with federal grand jury proceedings and has performed internal corporate investigations. Mr. Carmody has also represented national franchisors in a variety of contexts and major national insurance companies in large-scale coverage disputes.
Mr. Carmody takes an active role in charitable and civic affairs, and has regularly volunteered his time on behalf of disadvantaged members of the community. Mr. Carmody was awarded DLA Piper’s Pro Bono Associate of the Year Award in 2003 after his involvement in prosecuting highly-publicized national civil rights litigation on behalf of over 40 minorities and the NAACP. This representation received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Washington D.C. Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights, having been deemed "one of the finest examples of civil rights advocacy in the Committee’s history."
