Sentry Insurance Defeats Sex Harassment Claims in Federal Court
[Chicago, January 13] Employment Law attorneys with the firm of Vedder Price successfully defended Wisconsin-based Sentry Insurance Company in a significant sex and age discrimination case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The plaintiff had sought in excess of $1 million in damages.
A federal court jury today unanimously found in favor of Sentry Insurance Company and against former employee, Rosemary Higbee, in a case tried before the Hon. Matthew F. Kennelly. Edward Jepson and Angela Pavlatos represented Sentry Insurance in the case. The trial lasted six days, and the jury deliberated about an hour and 45 minutes before reaching its verdict in favor of Sentry on all of the claims.
The plaintiff alleged that she had been the victim of years of sexual harassment and that eventually she was fired because of her refusal to consent to the harassment. She also alleged that she was the victim of age discrimination.
