Vedder Price Diversity Scholarship Awarded
The Law firm of Vedder Price announced the winner of its first Diversity Scholarship Award for minority law students in Illinois. Veronica Root, a first year student at the University of Chicago, will receive a $5,000 stipend for each of her three years of law school and is guaranteed a position in the Vedder Price’s award-winning Summer Program for 2006. Law students in 2005 ranked the Vedder Price Summer Program No. 1 in Chicago.
Ms. Root is a graduate of Georgetown University (B.S. 2005), where she was a National Dean’s List honoree and a recipient of the Black Student Alliance Vision of Excellence Leadership Award. While at Georgetown, she was co-chair of the Communications Committee of the Diversity Action Counsel and a student representative to the Georgetown University Alumni Board of Governors. In addition, Ms. Root served as a volunteer for the office of Faith-based and Community Institutions at the White House in 2004. In 2002, she served as an intern in the office of U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
The award was presented by Lawrence J. Casazza, Chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee, and by James V. Garvey, Chair of the firm’s Associate Hiring Committee. “We are delighted to make this award to Veronica Root, a truly outstanding candidate,” commented Mr. Casazza. “As a firm, we want to make a difference and we specifically desire to promote diversity within our firm and within the profession at large and we were gratified by the excellent number of applications we received. We look forward to many more such awards in the years to come”.
