08/07/08 - Eric A. Berg Joins Real Estate and Construction Practice Groups

The law firm of Vedder Price P.C. announces that Eric A. Berg joins the firm as a shareholder in its Chicago office, in the firm’s Real Estate and Construction Law practices.  Mr. Berg is leaving DLA Piper US, LLP, where he concentrated in construction law.

Mr. Berg focuses his practice on real estate and construction law including both transactional and litigation-related matters.  His transactional work includes drafting and negotiating contracts for the design, construction, rehabilitation and management of hotels, hospitals, office buildings, industrial facilities and retail establishments. In the field of construction litigation, he has represented owners, contractors and subcontractors, financial institutions, architects, and engineers on a wide range of matters.

Mr. Berg is well-versed in all facets of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA).  He counsels clients on the interpretation of these complicated laws, as well as other federal, state and local accessibility statutes.  He is also a frequent speaker on accessibility laws, including presentations before groups such as the American Bar Association’s Annual Construction Forum and the International Council of Shopping Centers’ annual CenterBuild Conferences.

Mr. Berg is a member of the American Bar Association (Construction Forum) and is a Professional Affiliate Director of the American Institute of Architects—Chicago 2008 Board of Directors.  He is a graduate of Yale University (B.A., 1987) and Northwestern University School of Law (J.D., 1992).  His recent publications include:

  • “Accessibility Laws:  An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure,” Construction Lawyer (Winter 2008)

From 1999 to 2004, Mr. Berg served as General Counsel to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
