05/29/08 - Bankruptcy Litigation Attorneys Join Vedder Price in Chicago

The law firm of Vedder Price is pleased to announce that two creditors’ rights attorneys— Arlene N. Gelman and John E. Zummo —have joined the firm’s 55-member Commercial Litigation Practice in Chicago.  Both will be Shareholders at Vedder Price.  They will also be members of the firm’s Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Corporate Reorganization Group

Ms. Gelman concentrates her practice in the representation of lenders, large equipment lessors and other creditors in state, federal district, appellate and bankruptcy courts throughout the country, including prosecuting numerous breach of contract and replevin actions, defending bankruptcy preference actions, and representing the interests of secured and unsecured creditors in various state courts and in bankruptcy matters.  

Ms. Gelman is a graduate of the University of Illinois (B.A., with distinction, 1989) and Boston University School of Law (J.D., 1994) where she was an Edward F. Hennessey Scholar.  Ms. Gelman also served as a staff attorney to the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois and as Law Clerk to the Honorable Ronald Barliant and to the Honorable Eugene R.Wedoff—both U.S. Bankruptcy Judges for the Northern District of Illinois.  In addition, Ms Gelman served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Joan H. Lefkow, U. S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

Mr. Zummo concentrates his practice in the area of business litigation, with an emphasis on creditor’s rights and bankruptcy-related litigation, including defending financial institutions in lender liability actions and prosecuting breach of contract, fraud, and conspiracy claims against defaulting commercial borrowers and guarantors.  Mr. Zummo has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, including over 25 bench and jury trials.

Mr. Zummo is a graduate of Marquette University (B.A., cum laude, 1992) and the John Marshall Law School (J.D., cum laude, 1997).  Following graduation from law school, Mr. Zummo served as a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy and a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California.   After leaving government service, Mr. Zummo practiced in the Chicago office of two national law firms.
