2007 Summer Program - Select Training & Observation Activities

Vedder Price offers a number of training sessions designed to educate the summer associate about the firm and its core areas of practice. In 2007, sessions were offered on: Time entry & Equipment Finance; Investment Services; Serving Clients and Building relationships: Intellectual Property ; Litigation; Legal writing; Labor and Employment Law; Corporate Finance and Transactions; Introduction to Federal and State Courts; Executive Compensation/Negotiation; Associate evaluation and compensation; Firm management and structure.

1. Attended status hearing with Associate regarding motion to dismiss.
2. Attended seminar entitled “Litigation Readiness: Understanding and Coping with the Amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure,” presented by Shareholders.
3. Attended motion hearing with Associate to defend against Plaintiff’s motion for default judgment.
4. Met with Judge Andersen for tour of his chambers and question/answer session; observed two sentencing hearings in Judge Pallmeyer’s courtroom.
5. Observed Shareholder give oral argument regarding defamation at the Illinois Appellate Court.
6. Client meeting with Shareholder to prepare clients for arbitration in labor case; arbitration settled.
7. Participate in client’s stock buy-back closing meeting with Associate; meet with selling shareholders’ representatives; verify valid stock certificates, lost stock certificate affidavits, and stock powers; exchange checks and stock certificates.
8. Attend Bankruptcy Court motion hearing with Shareholder; bankruptcy trustee requests continuance in order to transfer Chapter 11 company asset to individual; motion granted.
9. Conference with Shareholders re client’s 8-K filing; research background information on 8-K.
10. Client’s Audit Committee conference call regarding approval of quarterly earnings release.
11. Observed closing of fractional aircraft purchase with Counsel.
12. Attended tour of Marmon Aviation Site at Midway Airport with Counsel and Associate.
13. Observed conference call with Shareholder re the restructuring of an Irish parent company.
14. Conversation with Associate re patent application preparation; observe inventor interview conducted by Associate.
15. Settlement conference call with Shareholders.
16. Observed Shareholder in Illinois Court of Appeals advocating affirmation of the trial courts grant of summary judgment.
