Kelly A. Starr is Co-Chair of the firm's Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits group and has practiced employee benefits and executive compensation law since joining the firm in 1995. She counsels a variety of employers on all aspects of employee benefits law, including the design, tax qualification, legal compliance, correction, interpretation, communication and termination of broad-based employee benefit plans. She also negotiates and structures executive employment agreements and executive compensation and benefit arrangements, including incentive compensation, deferred compensation, severance agreements and change-in-control programs, on behalf of both individual executives and companies. Ms. Starr has experience advising boards of directors and their committees with respect to executive compensation issues.
Prior to attending law school, Ms. Starr was employed with the human resources department of Amoco Corporation.
Ms. Starr is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Taxation and Business Law Sections of the American Bar Association. Ms. Starr currently serves on the firm’s Shareholder Compensation Committee. She formerly served as the Chair of the firm’s Associate Evaluation Committee and as a member of the firm’s Associate Hiring Committee, Diversity Committee and Nominating Committee.
Ms. Starr was selected for inclusion in 2006, and from 2009 to 2015, in Illinois Super Lawyers magazine, and was named one of “The Top Women Attorneys in Illinois” by the publication in 2013. Ms. Starr was selected by her peers as a Leading Lawyer in Employee Benefits Law and is a member of the Leading Lawyers Network. From 2013-2015, she has been ranked in Chambers USA in the Illinois Labor & Employment: Employee Benefits & Compensation category. She was also ranked in the Legal 500 United States’ Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation section in 2014 and 2015.
