Vedder Price Shareholders John H. Eickemeyer, Steven R. Berger and Junaid A. Zubairi will participate in the American Law Institute’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, “Accountants’ Liability 2017: Emerging Challenges Facing the Profession” on October 26-27 in Washington, DC. This course is the annual event for accountants, their advisers and those who regulate them to gain insights on SEC enforcement and SEC investigatory initiatives, learn practical strategies for dealing with whistleblowers among much more. This year’s presentation will feature a keynote discussion by SEC Chairman Jay Clayton and SEC Chief Accountant Wesley Bricker.

Mr. Eickemeyer is one of the founders of this program and will serve as Co-Planning Chair of the conference for the 29th consecutive year. In addition, he will participate in the panel, “Major GAAP and GAAS Issus and the Difficulties They Present,” discussing the hot issues arising in professional practice from GAAP and GAAS perspectives and the best practices in addressing these challenges proactively.

Mr. Berger’s session, “Emerging Ethical Issues,” will focus on evolving ethical issues in advising accounting firm clients on document retention, discovery compliance and information requests, as well as confidentiality. He will also cover the impact of technology and how it presents formidable challenges to an attorney’s ethical obligations regarding preservation and confidentiality.

Mr. Zubairi will co-lead the session, “SEC and the Profession,” discussing the Financial Reporting and Audit Group’s current enforcement initiatives and trends including activity in the pre-Wells stage and how to handle increased requests to present white papers.
